THE SUGARING
GUIDE
Expert guidance for better results. Everything you need to feel confident in your routine.
Sugaring has several benefits:
- Root-Level Hair Removal - Removes hair from the root for longer-lasting smoothness compared to shaving or hair removal creams.
- Gentle Exfoliation - Helps lift away dead skin cells during removal for smoother-looking skin.
- Water-Soluble Clean-Up - Sugar pastes rinses away easily with water without heavy residue.
- Skin-Friendly Formula - Traditional sugar paste is made with simple ingredients and does not require harsh resins commonly found in some waxes.
- Smoother Regrowth - With consistent use, many people notice softer-feeling regrowth over time.
- Ingrown Hair Support - Regular sugaring and exfoliation may help reduce the appearance of ingrown hairs.
- Less Adhesion to Skin - Sugar paste is designed to grip hair rather than the surrounding skin surface, helping make the experience feel gentler for many users.
- Suitable for Multiple Areas - Can be used on larger body areas as well as delicate areas .
Tempered Sugaring Paste is a modern evolution of traditional sugaring paste - carefully formulated to maintain a soft, molten-like consistency at room temperature while delivering the strength and grip typically associated with traditional hand-applied sugar paste.
Unlike solid hand-applied pastes that must be molded and flicked by hand, Tempered Sugaring Paste has been reversed engineered to be spreadable with an applicator at low to no heat, for a more precise, effortless experience without sacrificing performance. The more controlled application is designed to reduce some of the pulling, overworking, and discomfort that can happen when firmer hand-applied sugar pastes are used incorrectly. Since Tempered Sugaring Paste spreads more easily and requires less manual manipulation than traditional hand-flicking techniques, it is more approachable for beginners and at-home users while still performing at a level appreciated by experienced users and professionals alike.
And unlike conventional strip sugaring formulas that can become overly thin and struggle to extract coarser strands, Tempered Sugar is engineered to maintain its consistency for smoother application, strong hair grip, and easier control.
Tempered Sugar offers all of the traditional benefits of sugaring - including root-level hair removal, gentle exfoliation, and water-soluble clean-up - while introducing a more refined application experience designed for modern at-home and professional use.
- Soft at Room Temperature - Designed to remain soft, spreadable, and workable without requiring excessive heating.
- Strong Grip Performance - Maintains the strength and grip associated with traditional hand-applied sugar paste, helping remove coarse and stubborn hair more effectively.
- More Controlled Application - Engineered to spread smoothly without becoming overly runny or difficult to manage.
- Less Hair Breakage - The stronger grip can help reduce breakage that may occur with weaker strip-style sugar pastes that struggle to fully extract thicker strands from the root.
- Beginner-Friendly Feel - Easier to spread and work with than traditional hand-flicking pastes, making the process feel more approachable for at-home users.
- Reduced Overworking - Requires less repeated manipulation during application, which can help minimise unnecessary pulling and discomfort.
- Applicator & Strip Compatible - Designed specifically for applicator-and-strip use for a cleaner, more consistent application experience.
- Professional-Level Performance - Offers the ease of a softer paste while still delivering the performance appreciated by experience users and professionals.
- Modernised Sugaring Experience - Combines the traditional benefits of true sugar paste with a more refined texture engineered for modern application preferences.
Both of our Tempered Sugaring Pastes are formulated for use with strips. They are workable at body temperature and are designed for smooth, easy application with an applicator. The right choice depends on the hair type you are extracting.
ONYX Tempered Sugaring Paste (Extra Grip) - Best for Coarse Hair
The Onyx paste has extra grip, making it perfect for stubborn, root anchored hair that needs more pulling power.
Choose Onyx if you're working with:
- Bikini area
- Pubic hair
- Underarms
- Eyebrows
- Beards (Thick)
- Mustache (Coarse)
AMBER Tempered Sugaring Paste (More Spreadable) - Best for Fine/Medium Hair and Large Areas
Amber is more spreadable, making it easier to cover bigger sections quickly and evenly for a smoother, faster service.
Choose Amber if you're removing hair from:
- Arms
- Legs
- Chest
- Back
- Face
- Other areas with fine to medium hair
Our sugaring pastes are designed for applicator and strip use, combining the performance of professional sugaring with a more approachable application method.
Step 1 - Prepare the Skin
Ensure skin is clean, dry, and free from oils, lotions, or creams.
Step 2 - Warm if Needed
The paste is spreadable at body temperature and requires little to no heat. If desired, warm slightly until it reaches a smooth, workable consistency.
Step 3 - Apply the Paste
Using an applicator, spread a thin, even layer over the skin. While sugaring is naturally multi-directional, those new to sugaring can start by applying against the direction of hair growth.
Step 4 - Remove
Please a strip over the paste, smooth firmly, and remove with a quick motion. Beginners may find it easiest to remove in the direction of hair growth.
Step 5 - Repeat as Needed
Continue section by section until the area is complete. The paste can be reapplied to missed hairs as needed.
Step 6 - Rinse Away Residue
Any remaining paste dissolves easily with warm water.
Step 7 - Aftercare
Avoid excessive heat, heavy sweating, exfoliation, and fragranced products on the treated area for 24 hours. Keep skin moisturised and allow time to recover.
Helpful Tip
If paste feels too firm, warm it slightly. If it is too soft, allow it to cool for a few minutes before continuing. Using the right consistency is a part of achieving the best results.
Unlike many traditional waxing methods, sugaring can be worked in multiple directions depending on the area being treated, the hair growth pattern, and personal preference.
For those new to sugaring, a simple place to start is:
Apply against the direction of hair growth and remove with the direction of hair growth.
The approach helps the paste surround the hair more effectively while keeping removal controlled and predictable.
As you become more fimiliar with the product, you'll find that many areas of the body contain hair growing in several directions at once. In these situations, application and removal may be adjusted to suit the growth pattern of the area being treated.
General Guidelines
- Work in small sections, especially on areas with mixed growth patterns.
- Ensure the paste makes full contact with the hair before removal.
- Keep the skin taut during removal for best results.
- Use a quick, controlled pull rather than a slow lift.
- If a section is missed, simply reapply and repeat as needed.
Understanding Hair Growth
Hair does not always grow in a simple direction.
Areas such as the underarms, bikini line, knees, and jawline often have multiple growth patterns within the same treatment area. Taking a moment to identify the direction of growth before starting can help improve results and reduce the need for additional passes.
Tip: If you're unsure which direction to work, start with the simplest approach - apply against growth and remove with growth - then adjust as you become more comfortable with the technique.
Proper aftercare helps keep skin comfortable and supports the best possible results after hair removal.
Immediately after treatment, the skin may appear slightly pink or feel more sensitive than usual. This is a normal response and typically subsides within a few hours.
For the First 24 Hours
To help minimise irritation, avoid:
- Hot baths, hot tubs, and saunas
- Intense exercise and excessive sweating
- Direct sun exposure and tanning
- Exfoliating products and treatments
- Fragranced products on the treated area
- Tight or restrictive clothing that may create friction
Keep Skin Comfortable
- Wear loose, breathable clothing when possible.
- Keep the area clean and dry.
- Apply a gentle, non-irritating moisturiser if needed.
- Avoid touching the area unnecessarily.
Preventing Ingrown Hairs
Regular exfoliation can help keep hair growing freely from the skin's surface.
After the initial 24-hour period:
- Gently exfoliate 2-3 times per week
- Keep skin moisturised.
- Avoid picking at ingrown hairs or irritation.
Between Treatments
Consistent hair removal tends to produce the best long-term results. Allow hair to grow to an appropriate length before your next treatment and avoid shaving between sessions whenever possible.
A Note on Skin
Sugaring is naturally water soluble and does not adhere to live skin cells in the same way traditional wax can. This helps make hair removal gentler skin the skin while supporting a smoother overall experience.
Tip: Every person's skin is different. If irritation persists beyond a few days, discontinue use and consult a healthcare professional.
Sugaring is simple once you find the right consistency and technique for your hair type. If you're not getting the results you expected, these quick adjustments can help.
The Paste Feels Too Firm
Possible causes:
- Cool room temperatures
- Cool skin temperature
Try this:
- Warm the paste slightly
- Work with a smaller amount of product.
- Allow the paste to soften for a few moments before application.
The paste should spread smoothly without feeling stiff or difficult to move.
The Paste Feels Too Soft
Possible causes:
- Excessive heating
- Incorrect consistency for body area
Try this:
- Allow the paste to cool for a few minutes
- Use a firmer consistency for small body areas
The Paste if Not Removing Hair Effectively
Possible causes:
- Hair is too short
- Application layer is too thick
- Insufficient pressure during application
- Incorrect removal technique
- Moisture on the skin
Try this:
- Ensure the hair has enough length to be captured
- Apply a thin, even layer.
- Press the paste firmly onto the skin before applying the strip.
- Remove the strip with a quick, controlled motion.
- Ensure skin is clean and dry and use a talc-free powder to absorb any excess moisure on the skin before applying the paste.
Hair Was Removed Unevenly
Possible causes:
- Mixed hair growth directions
- Missed areas during application
- Uneven pressure
Try this:
- Work in smaller sections
- Indentify the direction of hair growth before starting.
- Reapply to any missed hairs as needed.
Some areas, particularly underarms and bikini areas, may require multiple directions of application due to varying growth patterns.
The Strip is Difficult to Remove
Possible causes:
- Pulling upward instead of parallel/close to the skin
- Removing too slowly
Try this:
- Keep the strip parallel to the skin during removal.
- Use quick, confident motions.
- Keep the skin taut.
Residue Remains on the Skin
This is completely normal.
Because sugaring paste is water-soluble, any residue can be removed easily with warm water.
No special removers are required.
Skin Appears Pink After Treatment
A temporary pink appearance is normal and typically fades within a few hours.
To help soothe the skin:
- Avoid heat and friction
- Keep the area clean
- Follow the aftercare recommendations.
Finding the Ideal Formula
Temperature, humidity, skin temperature, and hair type can all influence performance.
AMBER is generally preferred for:
- Medium to fine hair
- Larger treatment areas
ONYX is generally preferred for:
- Coarse hair
- Stubborn growth
Many customers find that having access to both formulas allows them to adapt to different areas, seasons, and conditions.
Tip: Most sugaring challenges are consistency of technique related. Small adjustments often make a significant difference in performance.
